Modern upholstery relies on a specific set of tools and materials that make the work faster, cleaner, and more durable than traditional methods. In this lecture-style class, we’ll walk through the essential tools and supplies used in contemporary upholstery so you can understand what you actually need—and what you don’t—before starting a project.
Through demonstrations and real examples, you’ll learn what each tool does, how it’s used in the upholstery process, and how different materials contribute to the structure and comfort of a finished piece. We’ll focus specifically on modern techniques and supplies commonly used in today’s upholstery shops.
In this class, we’ll cover:
Essential upholstery hand tools and what they do
Pneumatic tools and when they’re used
Staple types, sizes, and applications
Foam, batting, and common padding materials
Webbing, decking, and support layers
Adhesives, fasteners, and shop supplies
This is a lecture and guided walkthrough—no hands-on work required. Ideal for beginners, DIYers, and anyone curious about how modern upholstery work actually comes together behind the scenes.
